all The problem is still not resolved, but at least I could make a dirty fix to get the invoices generated.
In /pdf/header.tpl I simply excluded line 33-35 which generates the logo on the invoice. Sure the invoice does not have a logo on it, but until I fixed the problem it's better than nothing.
